Barbara Armitage M.A. LPCS
Texas Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor # 18779

Professional Experience

I am a licensed professional counselor and have had a private practice in Plano, TX since 2004. It is my intention and my hope to bring warmth, comfort, skill, confidentiality and good humor into each client partnership.

I specialize in working with clients who deal with various life challenges, such as: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, abuse, grief and loss issues, communication problems and relationship issues. I am experienced with clients who have needed guidance through stressful situations, times of crisis, work issues, and loss or change of employment.

Prior to starting my practice, I worked with adults in long term mental health treatment, in hospital settings, and in agency programs, doing assessment, individual and group counseling treatment.

I served for 14 years as director of Hope’s Door Outreach and Aftercare services for victims of domestic abuse, providing individual counseling and group counseling. Following my retirement from that position, I served as group facilitator for 4 years in the Battering Intervention and Prevention Program for men and women.

I am certified by the State of Texas to provide supervision for Licensed Professional Counselor – Interns, and am passionate about providing this kind of mentoring for new counselors as they complete work for their careers.

I have provided trainings about domestic abuse for various groups, and am available to facilitate programs and workshops on Gary Chapman’s Five Love Languages.
